HOW TO PREPARE YOUR VESSEL FOR A SURVEY

Preparing for a Marine Survey is dependent upon what type of Survey will be performed, therefore we will address each type of survey.

Pre-Purchase:

  •  Make the necessary preparations for haulout if necessary. Keep in mind that the fees incurred are normally paid by the perspective buyer. The actual inspection does not generally take a long time therefore most times it is done while hanging in the slings. The bottom must be clean which is commonly accomplished by pressure cleaning it.
  •  Prepare the vessel as is necessary for sea trials. Keep in mind that vessel operation is not within the scope of duties to be                  performed by the surveyor. The bottom and especially the propellers should be clean, Fuel and fluids checked and any other            preparations normally associated with a cruise the duration of the planned sea trials. If an engine survey is to be performed also    contact the engine surveyor for instructions. Also if you are the buyer try to have a typical amount of weight aboard the vessel to    represent the average load for the intended use. This will insure that the vessel performs as it will when in use.
  •  Check all safety equipment to include fire extinguishers, visual distress signals, Life jackets etc.
  •  Provide for easy access to all areas of the vessel.
  •  Make sure that shore power is available to prove all systems both AC and DC.
  •  Have fresh water aboard to prove both hot and cold water systems.
